Marie Cohen is the creator and author of the national blog Child Welfare Monitor. Marie discussed her writing and blog and the impact it is having on child welfare nationally. Her blog, Child Welfare Monitor, focuses on child welfare policy around the nation. Marie’s D.C.-based blog has developed a national following because of her deep dives into child welfare topics not often covered by mainstream media, such as homeschooling, the impact of the federal Families First Act, and the movement to abolish child protection. In her first two careers, she worked as a policy researcher and analyst and as a social worker in the District of Columbia’s child welfare system. She serves on the District of Columbia Child Fatality Review Panel and has been a volunteer mentor for a young woman in foster care for over six years.
