A big Thank You to the 30 Safe Passage volunteers who visited 25 state Senators and Representatives this week to advocate for improvements to Minnesota’s child welfare system. They asked legislators to support:
A study of racial disparities in child protection and foster care by the Legislative Auditor.
Funding for:
- The Child Welfare Training Academy — an essential resource for quality casework
- Increased staff for Guardians ad litem and Public Defenders
- The Great Start for All Minnesota Children Act, which expands Targeted Home Visiting and Early Learning Scholarships — two evidence-based programs that significantly reduce maltreatment
Details about our advocacy agenda are here.
These legislative initiatives would significantly strengthen Minnesota’s child welfare infrastructure, reduce child maltreatment, increase support for families, and create a road map for tackling racial disparities.
