Dear Supporters of Safe Passage for Children of Minnesota,

As we look back at 2021 we are grateful to have achieved a number important milestones – due in large part to our generous donors and passionate volunteers.

Safer Children

Because of work by Safe Passage at the state Capitol an estimated 13,000 more children are receiving child protection help annually, and total revenues have increased by over $200 million.

New Strategic Partnerships for 2022 Legislative Session

Safe Passage is forming strategic partnerships for the 2022 state legislative session that will significantly strengthen our potential to end practices that put children in harm’s way, such as interviewing them in the presence of their alleged abusers and not gathering evidence or keeping records in family assessments.  Watch our legislative updates for details!

Welcome our Ireland Fellow

Thanks to a generous donation from former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Kathleen Blatz and former Cargill CEO Greg Page, Safe Passage hired an Archbishop Ireland Fellow, Maya Schulte, from the University of St. Thomas School of Law.  Maya will acquire and analyze data on the more than 60 child fatalities in Minnesota since 2015 to identify systemic problems and develop future public policy initiatives.

Recognition for our Executive Director

Minnesota’s Court Appointed Special Advocates program (CASA), presented our Executive Director Rich Gehrman with the Mark Proctor Hero for Children Award in recognition of his service to Minnesota’s children.

 Expanded Program Offerings

Our blog now comes with a podcast that provides details and analysis of the weekly topic. And our continuing popular webinar series featured, among many topics, foster parents who shared their experiences and recommendations for action, and chats with many child welfare leaders about their agencies’ missions.  Please join us every other Wednesday at 2:30 pm!

With your support we will continue to advocate for safe practices and adequate resources during 2022.  Please give today to help us reach new heights for Minnesota children in 2022!

On behalf of Minnesota’s most vulnerable children, thank you.

– Rich Gehrman, Executive Director, Safe Passage for Children of Minnesota
