The class action lawsuit filed against Hennepin County and the Minnesota Department of Human Services by A Better Childhood (ABC) alleges systemic failures to protect children and provide required services.
For over 30 years, ABC and its predecessor organizations have forced many states to improve their practices and increase budgets for child protection and foster care.
The lawsuit is lengthy, but we recommend that you read the children’s stories starting on page 12. Our own original research confirms that the cases described there are not unusual nor are the portrayals exaggerated.
While Hennepin County leads the state in its recent efforts to improve their program, these narratives reveal how much children currently in the system have suffered, and the extent of reforms needed to begin treating them as they deserve.
