No Hit Zones Mean More Brain Power for Children

child being spanked

The Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children’s held its inaugural conference last week.  A major theme was ending socially sanctioned violence against children.  For example in many states, including Minnesota, legislation codifies acceptable limits for hitting children, whereas hitting adults is never legal.  Also, attendees started with the view that adults do not own their children, and aren’t entitled to do whatever they want with them.

It was refreshing to be in a setting where these values were assumed.

This was exemplified by an American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) initiative called No Hit Zones, based on research that even “ordinary” spanking reduces brain matter by 14%-19%, and lowers IQ by five points. They plan to encourage No Hit Zones in public places such as schools and medical facilities.

Let’s make Minnesota an early adaptor.

I would love for Minnesota to be an early adaptor and I strongly agree with the no hit zone in public places!
