This Wednesday we held our annual Advocacy for Children Day at the Minnesota legislature. Thanks to all the volunteers who came to speak up for children!
We supported increases in services known to reduce child maltreatment, particularly more Early Learning Scholarships and childcare slots.
We also distributed copies of our nationally-recognized report on Minnesota child fatalities to all 201 legislators, asking them to help us implement its recommendations, which include:
- 15% of fatalities involved torture – train workers to recognize and address it
- Nearly 10% of fatalities were in kinship placements – due diligence is needed
- Limit seemingly endless chances for parents to address chronic problems
- Stop returning children home from foster care to the same risks
Once this session concludes we will ask you to help us meet with your legislators and create a plan to make these improvements a reality in 2024.
