Structural Racism and Children

Structural Racism and Children 750 498 Safe Passage for Children of Minnesota

The structural racism laid bare by George Floyd’s murder has historically had a particularly harsh impact on children.

Even if parents are employed they aren’t paid enough to rent an apartment, so children move multiple times a year, or are simply homeless.  Unjust wages mean children are hungry, even with SNAP (food stamps) and food shelves.  Poor children have less access to services that mitigate poverty such as child care and mental health.  Many still lack health insurance and especially dental care.

What kind of society doesn’t care for its own children?  One that over-rates individualism and practically glorifies greed.

Children need more civic and business leaders who will help temper corporate and personal self-seeking with concern for the common good, and advocate for sharing our country’s resources more fairly.
